STAMP BY NUMBERS PROCESS

Assigned the typeface Castledown — originally designed for neurodiverse learners — I began by analysing its structural features and educational context. I chose the letter g for as I felt this was the most representative letter of the alphabets construction.

To bring the feel of a primary school feel to life, I experimented with common classroom materials — from toys to whiteboards to HB pencils  — before landing on discarded school erasers as both a tactile medium and a conceptual nod to making mistakes and childhood learning.

This led to a key design decision: to teach the letter through negative space and assembly, not sight — reflecting how children often learn through touch, play, and spatial reasoning. The use of reclaimed & discarded erasers grounded the tool in context, while the step-by-step stamping system echoed the structure of one-on-one learning.
