OutcomeProcess
Assigned a random typeface - design a way for an audience to accurately recreate a typeface they’ve never seen before inspired by the contextual background of the typeface.

Stamp by Numbers is a tactile learning tool that invites users to recreate a typeface they’ve never seen before — through interactivity rather than visual reference.

Assigned the typeface Castledown — designed by a teacher frustrated with the inaccessibility of school typefaces, particularly for neurodiverse children — I chose the letter g as my focus. The result is a set of rubber stamps carved from discarded school erasers, that map the negative space of the letter. When fully assembled, the pieces reveal the form of the g — mimicking that childhood “aha” moment when writing finally makes sense.

Each stamp can be placed in any order, but numbered guides help users match them to the correct part of the page. I delivered the instructions through a one-on-one tutoring session, using a shared “mat” to support learning through imitation, repetition, and discovery — just as children often learn to write.
