For this photography brief, we were asked to explore the idea of “beautiful errors” — whether societal or technical. I focused on a lesser-known aspect of dyslexia: the difficulty in processing speech when people talk at you, something I experience daily.

Dyslexia is often seen as a societal error — a misunderstanding of what the experience actually feels like. I wanted to reveal the hidden experiences that go beyond just reading words “correctly”, the stereotypical view of dyslexia. Through interviews with neurodiverse individuals, I gathered personal reflections and used various forms of glass and invisible barriers between the camera lens and the subject to visually echo the distortions they described.

The subject of each photograph is a well-known passage often used in dyslexia screening assessments. Whilst running through the inside pages of the French-fold publication is a hidden poem, composed of phrases taken directly from the interviews —  a visual and poetic reflection of an often invisible struggle.
